England captain Rio Ferdinand will miss the World Cup after a knee ligament injury suffered in training ruled him out for four to six weeks, the FA confirmed.

Steven Gerrard will captain the England squad in this World Cup.

Michael Dawson arrived in South Africa to join up with England's World Cup squad as a replacement for injured captain.
